Game Of Thrones third episode is upon as is “The Battle Of Winterfell.” In what has widely been reported as the largest filmed battle in both cinematic and television history, certainly seems as if this final season may hinge on the events of this evening. The opening sequence of Samwell Tarley (Bradley)exuding such terror in his mannerisms was a wonderful tone-setter. Peter Dinklage had the same look he had just before “The Battle Of Black Water.” The use of silence was also incredible in the opening moments of the episode.
Of course who wasn’t excited about Melisandre showing up and igniting the swords belonging to soldiers set to defend Winterfell. The use of light and cinematography was some of the best I’ve seen on any television show of the last twenty years. I love how we weren’t shown The Night King at the beginning of the episode. As a fan of the series, it’s hard not to feel as if a swerve was coming (we will get to that later).
I thought the redemptive moments in the episode were spaced out and had some elements of realism (even though we are talking about Game Of Thrones). Seeing Theon stand by Bran after all the horrible things he’s done was refreshing to see. Melisandre in many ways redeemed herself for past actions playing a vital role in keeping death away. However, my favorite (and my wife’s) had to be watching Lyana Mormont take out that Zombie Giant with her last breath. I loved seeing the Dragons fight sequences as well.
The star of the episode had to be Arya (Williams). She’s evolved into nothing short of a mythical badass as she was slaying White Walkers at twice the pace of anyone on the show. Also, if you didn’t love seeing her bring a resolution to “The Long Night was just awesome. Overall, the pacing and tone of this episode was outstanding and represented a pivot for the show. All eyes are now on Kings Landing, and with this win, Dany has gained a ton of loyal followers.
