We were mentally prepared for some severe things to go down during “The Battle Of Winterfell” during last week’s Game Of Thrones, but nothing prepared us for what down during this week’s fourth episode which dealt with the aftermath of the horrific battle which took place. However, if anyone of us had taken a second and thought about previous seasons, we would have realized that last week was a prelude to a turning point.
I thought the opening sequence in which the dead were remembered was exceptional. Loved seeing Sansa showing such emotion at the site of Theon’s body. No matter what anyone may think of him, they’ve been through quite a lot together. Jon Snow gave quite an impassioned speech before the funeral pyres were lit. The first thought that came to mind is how royal he sounded.
Two of the best quotes in the episode came from Tyrion and Tormund. Tyrion in an aside conversation with Davos said ” We may have found victory, but now we have to overcome ourselves. He couldn’t have been more accurate because in the end whoever sites on the Iron Throne will have to defeat the schemers in Winterfell and Kings Landing. Tormund, of course, had a couple of great one-liners concerning puking and celebration. He also mourned how he has now lost Brienne to Jaime. In what could only be described as a long time coming, our two favorite knights hooked up in a touching moment.

One thing which did catch my eye was how Daenerys seemed to be bothered by talk of others sitting on the Iron Throne. One can’t help but wonder if she’d be willing to do anything even if it meant eliminating someone she loves. I did find it quite telling that both the Hound and Arya are headed off to Kings Landing to tend to some unfinished business.
However, I feel the fatal mistake came in this episode when Dany and Jon split their forces with some heading to Kings Landing and with their queen heading home. This decision made them quite vulnerable. Euron’s must have realized this and launched a surprise attack taking Missandei prisoner and killing yet another one of Dany’s dragons. The scene which stood out to me was the look she had after the dragon fell into the sea. She’s snapped!

If anyone had any doubt about her finally having enough, take a look at the final look Dany had when she was walking away from one her best friends being beheaded by Cersei’s executioner. Everything is coming to a head, and with Jon and the troops making it to Kings Landing in episode 5, the carnage will commence.
