Review: ‘John Wick 3 – Parabellum’ Is An Engrossing Cracking Good Time

John Wick 3 is a symphony of pulse-pounding high-intensity action sequences dripping with intensity the likes an audience rarely sees. Derek Kolstad and Shay Hatten’s narrative seamlessly weaves in with the previous two films, but if we are honest, no one is going to this release because they want to be told a tale. Reeves is better than ever as Wick, and the action sequences are jaw-dropping. Just when you feel the sequences can’t get any better, you see one involving swords and a horse.  Wick is the latest visceral moment in director Chad Stahelski’s concerto of death.  I never knew someone taking a sword to the temple could be so beautiful and entertaining as well.

So where are we in this narrative? In this third installment John Wick (Keanu Reeves) returns with a $14 million price tag on his head and an army of bounty-hunting killers on his trail. After killing a member of the shadowy international assassin’s guild, the High Table, John Wick is on the run, but the world’s most ruthless hit men and women await his every turn.

One of the great strengths of this film is it’s supporting cast. Halle Berry, Asia Kate Dillion, and Ian McShane are all fantastic in their respective roles. Dan Laustsen’s Cinematography accentuates both the action sequences and the tremendous color palates of each set. Not only are the action sequences appealing, so are the visual surroundings these characters inhabit.  Tyler Bates and Joel J. Richard’s have composed a score which enhances those nervous moments in the film.

Even though the film is two hours and thirty minutes, it flys by. The intensity of the film doesn’t wear you out, but it does leave everyone wanting a fourth film (which may occur). I can’t imagine a more entertaining film to see (Yes, that does include Avengers: Endgame). Could we have a new #1 movie in America this weekend? We just might!
