‘Big Little Lies’ Season 2 Episode 5 Review: Five takeaways from an Intense Episode

While Big Little Lies aired this past Sunday, it certainly left fans with many more questions than answers. About the only thing we can say for sure is that the lives of the Monterey five are beginning to unravel (some faster than others). It seems a showdown is inevitable but between who remains to be seen. Here are five takeaways from Sunday’s episode.

5. Mary Louise regrets having to take these actions but isn’t being entirely truthful herself

Mary Louise (Meryl Streep) seems to be regretting these actions she has to take in regards to the custody of her grandchildren. She said as much this past episode. What Mary Louise isn’t saying though has me intrigued. I have a feeling she has a secret, and it has something to do with Perry’s dad. We don’t hear too much about him during the show, and I’m starting to think it’s deliberate.

4. Celeste’s children are going to want to live with Mary Louise

Celeste (Nicole Kidman) is trying to lay the groundwork for her children to tell the court-appointed psychologist that they want to stay with her. Call it a hunch, but they are going to end up with the individual who isn’t having Ambien influenced trysts. They are already dealing with pressure from peers about their father being a rapist. Losing them will devastate Celeste and make her a bit dangerous. Could we see another murder on Big Little Lies?

3. Celeste vs. Mary Louise will occur, and only one will survive

Losing the kids to Mary Louise will embolden her to challenge Celeste as to what occurred when Perry died. I anticipate a struggle between those two, leading to the death of Mary Louise. She’s going to hit rock bottom, and that’s going to cause her to lash out. Big Little Lies is going to be flipped on its head when that happens.

2. Bonnie is going to crack

Bonnie is under intense pressure due to her mother’s failing health and the guilt of what happened to Perry. She feels responsible, and that couldn’t be further from the truth. She’s going to crack probably during Celeste’s custody hearing. That’s when things are going to get interesting between her and Mary Louise.

1. One or more of the Monterey Five will not make it

Season 2, episode 5, debut 7/7/19: Laura Dern, Reese Witherspoon, Zoë Kravitz, Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley.

I fully anticipate Bonnie and Celeste not making it out alive out of season 2. These “truths” are unraveling, and there will be fallout from that.

What do you think is going to occur next on Big Little Lies?
