Dirty John: The Betty Broderick Story on Monday night aired two episodes to launch its 2nd season. The second one wasn’t nearly as entertaining as the first, but it was essential to understanding why Betty Broderick ultimately killed her ex-husband Dan. No, there weren’t any crash sequences in the 2nd episode. What it did show was just how manipulative Dan was from the very start. Here are our 5 takeaways.
5. Kids –

I don’t think Dan ever wanted kids. Dan viewed her having kids as a way of furthering his cause and keeping Betty down.
4. Superb –

I thought the casting of Chris Mason as a young Dan was pretty amazing. He nailed every nuance of Dan/Christian Slater. Beyond the impression, he certainly was able to emphasize just how he would push her buttons.
3. Strong –

Seeing Betty as a strong woman was very odd to witness, being that she is so beaten down towards the end.
2. The Part –

Dan seems to have viewed Betty from the beginning as a means to an end. For him to succeed, he has to have an all-American family.

Dan saw from the first time they met in the bar that she was quickly charmed by him, and from that moment on, he knew he could get her to agree to anything.
