Review: ‘Project Power’ Is Fine

Project Power is a pretty straight forward science fiction/superhero film. That’s not a knock on the film. If anything, it’s a positive. The film certainly doesn’t reinvent the genre, but Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman’s latest project delivers just enough to make streaming it worthwhile. The narrative is one most have seen before, but the action sequences and charismatic performances make the film worthy of your consideration. Science Fiction fans will dig the idea of a pill that alters your genetics for five minutes. Joseph Gordon Levitt, Jamie Foxx, and Dominique Fishback make the film undoubtedly watchable.

The film centers around a local cop (Gordon-Levitt) and a dealer (Fishback) who team up to find the source of a mysterious new drug that gives a person superpowers. A former soldier (Foxx) is out for revenge against the man who is holding his daughter captive. Could the same source of these drugs have a connection to the abduction of the solider’s daughter?

Foxx and Gordon-Levitt’s character certainly have loads of chemistry when they are on screen together. Fishback’s fiesty take on her character was a welcomed surprise as well. The action sequences were indeed fun. I Loved the fight scene between the torch man and Foxx’s character. The only time the film dragging was when they were attempting to establish the solider’s motivation. Had they stuck to what worked, it would have been a far better film. This didn’t need much substance. Overall, I thought Project Power was entertaining, but it seems I’m in the minority on this one. Check it out this weekend and make your own decision.
