It’s Sunday, and another Intense episode of Euphoria has come and gone. It does seem that they aren’t wasting any time setting up a wide array of storylines. One of the many reasons this show has become a phenomenon is how deliberate Sam Levinson is when building each character’s narrative arc. Nothing is ever rushed, the stories are richly developed, and the payoff is deeply satisfying. Where we appear to be at this week is dealing with the fallout of Nate (Jacob Elordi) being jumped by Fez (Agnus Cloud) at the party. Sadly, the least of our concerns is how Nate is medically. There’s certainly much to discuss in these takeaways.
5. It’s about to get real –
This episode spends a great deal of time explaining how insane Maddy (Alexa Demie) can be and how it won’t take much to set her off. They also spend even more time explaining how Nate is head over heels in love with Cassie (Sydney Sweeney). This will certainly not end well for these three (especially when Maddy finds out). This love triangle will undoubtedly end with Cassie and Maddy going at each other’s throats, and Nate will just be smirking in a corner while it happens.
4. Kat’s Moment –
Kat’s (Barbie Ferrera) relationship is a big chunk of this episode. She doesn’t love herself, which confuses the hell out of her being that she is in the best relationship out of the whole group. Levinson does a great job of highlighting the anxiety that young ladies must certainly face at this age. All sorts of voices are pulling at you, saying exactly how it should be, and all the while, it doesn’t seem to matter. Her moment this week felt empowering. Where this leads regarding Kat’s relationship remains to be seen.
3. It’s all out in the open –
My suspicions were accurate; Lexi (Maude Apatow) is most certainly going to get with Fez (Angus Cloud) very soon. While she seems taken about how present he was for their conversation, she seems fascinated by the level of brutality he exhibited towards Nate. In her mind, he likely deserved it. However, that whole incident has ignited something in her. Does Fez feel that same way? Perhaps, it wasn’t clear this week.
Nate’s dad, Cal (Eric Dane), pushes Cassie and Lexi far enough to cause one of them to break, so now he knows who hurt Nate. While it felt as if he was going to exact some revenge, he instead questions Nate why a drug dealer nearly killed him. His son now knows she hooked up with Jules and videotaped it. To this point, he only knows that the tape went missing. Cal thinks Nate has it, and that’s probably what his son wants. Can you say blackmail? What they both don’t realize is Maddy has the tape. My guess is when the thing with Cassie becomes public, that tape will suddenly become public.
2. What the hell –
I don’t get where they are headed with Jules’s storyline this season. Yes, Rue is a bad influence on her. However, isn’t she equally a terrible influence on Rue? While they might not do drugs together, they are both emotionally manipulative. It seems evident that these two won’t last the whole season, but hopefully, this storyline becomes a bit clearer next week. It can’t just be a simple, jealously narrative. Can it?
1. Hmmm –
Eventually, Fez is going to find out that Cal interrogated Lexi. He will certainly then realize what Cal knows about his involvement in Nate’s beatdown. His aggressive tone towards Lexi will likely set him over the edge. We saw what he did, Nate. What will he do if Cal comes at him with a gun?
